I have run my own consultancy practice for over 22 years, delivering change programmes for a wide range of civil society organisations. For example I facilitated a stocktake of the first clinical trial for Ebola to be successfully completed in West Africa. The findings set the foundations for a Rapid Research Response Framework to be developed by ERGO at Oxford University.
I was also Service Lead for Leadership Development and an Honorary Visiting Fellow at Cass Business School’s Centre for Charity Effectiveness – associated with CCE from 2011-2020. Alongside delivery of bespoke leadership and consultancy programmes for individual charities, I was course leader on our highly successful open programmes for New Chief Executives (NCE) and for Aspiring Chief Executives (ACE).
In 2014/5 I led a major scoping review investigating the needs of legal advice charities following devastating funding cuts to that sector, and then led a major two year LDP designed to support the Sector to reconfigure (funded by The Baring Foundation and JP Getty Charitable Trust).
I led three successful iterations of a year-long LDP for permanent staff of Students’ Unions, commissioned by NUS, with bespoke spin-off programme for Kings College London SU and a number of other university unions. I led a LDP for the Jewish Leadership Council’s Adam Science Programme, and I previously carried out extensive scoping and produced a LD Strategy for the YMCA Movement, with Caroline Copeman.
For the first decade of my consulting career (1998-2008) I was also an associate of Consultancy Works Partnership engaged in major transformation programmes. CWP supported the turnaround of Sheffield Community Mental Health from being in special measures to becoming a beacon service, and delivered a major organisational development programme which supported the successful merger of several bodies into The South London and Maudsley Mental Health Trust. I was also on The NHS Leadership Centre’s small team of “world-class” action-learning set facilitators for Primary Care Trust executives.
I provide executive coaching for civil society leaders who wish to work at a deeper and more profound level: I have worked with numerous chairs & chief executives of charities; and head teachers, directors, senior managers, medical leaders and other clinical staff in the public sector. I have also supervised high level internal organisational consultants who are themselves responsible for transformational change in their own places of work. I have also facilitated on consultancy skills courses for several universities to postgraduate level and given numerous conference presentations and workshops on leadership and change.
I pride myself in long term consulting relationships with clients, eg. with the Head Teacher Team of Amaya Trust – which attained exceptional pupil results. I have also carried out extensive work for South London & Maudsley NHS MH Trust over a number of years: co-facilitating the Consultancy Skills Masterclass programme and reviewing the medical consultants’ appraisal scheme, nurse practice development, and the devolution of psychotherapy services.
